Versant Provides Campsite to Penobscot River Paddlers

The Penobscot River Paddling Trail is an organization that provides campsites for paddlers traveling on the river’s main stem from Medway to Bucksport. Paddlers in the group can choose to take a trip on the river on their own or take a guided tour where they can learn about Wabanaki culture along the way.

This fall, Penobscot River Paddling Trail members reached out to the Versant Power property management team to ask about camping on riverside property that the company owns. Our team worked with the organization to find an ideal spot along their route for a campsite in Winn.

Versant’s Winn property fits the group’s criteria for a good campsite: it is quiet, pretty and is easily accessed from the river but difficult to access from the land.  The spot is well located on their paddling route, about 10 miles upstream from their campsite in the Lincoln area and about 10 miles downstream from a campsite in Medway that they are looking to establish soon.

“We extend our deep appreciation for your support with a beautiful campsite in Winn,” said PRPT President David Thanhauser. “Thanks to your generosity, the trail offers an exciting and meaningful adventure to paddlers.”

The trail is still in progress and the campsites will eventually provide a link between the East Branch of the Penobscot and the Maine Island Trail, both of which have established paddling trails. We were happy to help them add another camping spot to their trail! You can learn more about PRPT at https://www.penobscotriverpaddlingtrail.org/.
